About the Artist
Artist Biography
I
was born in 1941, lived my early life in southern coastal New England and
then in the central Appalachians, the Cape Hatteras region and since 1969, in
south
central Pennsylvania.
I have been twice married and have seven living children who are
presently scattered over the United States. My training is as a biologist and
I have
taught for thirty-six years.
An
artist friend once said "Paul paints by the numbers."
In a sense, this is true. I struggle to determine the placements of the colors
and to
bring the painting under control. I paint for myself for the challenge of the
struggle.
I am a regionalist and usually paint what is familiar and significant to me
and/or to
those I care about. My paintings are the realizations of my sensitivities to
the common
things surrounding me. I paint my feelings about my subjects; it may also therefore
be said my brushes dip deeply into the spring of my spirituality.
